CGPACS Graduate Student Small Grant Opportunity

Call for Proposals

(Seed Grants Available to CGPACS Graduate Student Affiliates Only)

The Center for Global Peace and Conflict Studies at UCI is pleased to offer small grants for graduate students for research projects or to support graduate student groups relevant to the Center’s mission and interests. Students may apply for between $500 and $1500 to travel for research purposes, pay for other significant research expenses, or attend a conference (after department and school funding has been exhausted). Students may also submit a joint application to design and help fund a workshop or ongoing student group at UCI.

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO BUDGETARY CONSTRAINTS, WE WILL FUND FEWER GRANT’S THIS YEAR.

Proposals should include the following:

  1. an abstract not exceeding 150 words (see samples Sample 1, Sample 2);

  2. a narrative not exceeding 750 words that describes the research question and its broader intellectual or policy significance and outlines the research strategy or design. Proposals should also provide the dates and duration of the project, state how the conference or project fits within the student’s trajectory and how it will help the student(s) progress;

  3. a proposed budget that describes the activities to be supported by Center funding. Please indicate in your budget whether you have received or applied for funds for the project or group from your department, school, or another center (and how much you have received or applied for), and describe the necessity for additional CGPACS funding;

  4. a separate cover sheet including the title of the project/paper and your name, department, and contact information.

  5. YOU MUST ALSO ASK A FACULTY MEMBER TO WRITE A LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR YOUR PAPER OR PROJECT. Grantees will be asked to submit timely progress and fiscal reports and will be required to present their work at an organized forum during the 2009-2010 year. Advisors will also be asked to attend this forum.

Please submit an electronic copy as well as two (2) hard copies of your proposal to Jayne Lee jayne.lee@uci.edu: Office: SST 787; Mail: 3151 SSPA, Zot 5100

The deadline for receipt of proposals is WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 2009. Funding decisions will be announced shortly after the deadline and we anticipate transmittal of funds before June 30, 2009.
